Sebastopol, CA - United States

Meet Sonoma County, California artist Carolyn Jarvis. Her paintings have been shown in the Valley Art Gallery, Walnut Creek, CA from 2004 to the present time. Carolyn has also shown her paintings in the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Windsor Arts Council Gallery, Alamo-Danville Artists’ Society shows, the Museum of San Ramon Valley, the Alameda County Fair, and the Save Mount Diablo’s Moonlight on the Mountain event. She has won awards in shows sponsored by the Alamo-Danville Artists’ Society, Las Juntas Artists, and the Valley Art Gallery. In 1996, she started painting in watercolors, a couple of years later in acrylics and later in oils. She has studied with Lian Zhen, Van Waldron, Charles Waldman, Gary Bergren, and Fealing Lin.
In 2011 Carolyn Jarvis moved to the Sebastopol area in Sonoma County, California because of her attraction to the area’s beautiful vineyards and coastlines. Prior to that Carolyn had lived since the age of 25 in the San Francisco Bay Area, primarily in Walnut Creek, after growing up in the Washington, D.C. area, after emigrating from Scotland and England.
Carolyn particularly enjoys oil painting en plein air, capturing a scene’s light, shadows and colors. She likes the thickly textured quality of oil paint as well as its ability to create soft edges. Her style is colorful, loose and Impressionistic. Her landscape, animal, floral and still life oil, acrylic or watercolor studio paintings are inspired by her memories and photographs she has taken in California, the American SouthWest, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and the South Pacific.
